Our
Story

Purposely United was created to honour and enhance the good works of two pillars of the Winslade community, Dr. Rev Vincent Onwukanjo and Mrs Joyce Baptiste, who unfortunately passed away at the start 2021.

For over 30 years they provided provisions and support to members of the surrounding community. Dr. Rev Vincent was the founder of REMEC Youth Club founded in  2006 and Mrs Joyce was the owner of Sankofa Nursery from August 1998, previously managed by Janice Lavender (Rio Ferdinand mother) both based within Winslade estate.

Purposely United was established in 2021 and its core efforts is to provide community provision, initiatives and support to residents within Lewisham and Southwark Borough. At Purposely United, we know that sometimes all it takes to create change is a little support. Since our founding in May 2021, we have been determined to make an impact within our local communities.

Our team brings fresh innovative ideas and passion to the range of activities we provide and are involved in. Through all of our endeavours we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.

Purposely United is founded and managed by two parents with passion for their Community - Quinta Tima and Bianca Kent who both act as Directors of the organisation ensuring that the company meets its statutory and other obligations.

The directors of Purposely United collectively for over 10 years worked for Dr. Rev Vincent in providing provisions and support to the Winslade community and surrounding areas. Therefore, giving them the knowledge, experience and understanding of what the community wants, needs and requires.

Quinta and Bianca were also two of the many community members who were supported by Mrs Joyce collectively for over 10 years with additional childcare services, and amazing to say Sankofa Nursery is still welcoming children through their doors.

Mrs Joyce and Dr. Rev Vincents were loved, respected pillars of the Winslade community, always left themselves open to all members, ready to lend an ear, a helping hand and did so with the purest of hearts.

The Directors

Dr. Rev Vincent Onwukanjo

Dr. Rev Vincent was an advocate for his community, playing an important role as he saw the need for youth provisions as the council had overlooked Winslade in providing support to a deprived area of South East London. This led to the birth of Remec Youth Club which was established in 2006 and based at Scotney Hall within Winslade.

The Youth Club was able to provide a safe and fun environment for the children on the estate. Dr. Rev Vincent not only provided youth provision but opened his heart up to the whole community providing provisions and support to children, young people, and senior citizens and residents of Winslade estate.

The directors of Purposely United collectively for over 10 years worked for Dr. Rev Vincent in providing these provisions and support to the Windslade community and surrounding areas.

Joyce Baptiste

Mrs Joyce was the owner of Sankofa Nursery and a prior resident on Winslade Estate. Mrs Joyce provided immense support to residents with children, by providing childcare services sometimes beyond her scope. Widely known as a very loving and compassionate individual who was passionate about her community and all that it stood for.

The directors of Purposely were also some of the many who were helped by Mrs Joyce collectively for over 10 years with additional childcare services.
